Interpreting Lavrov’s Assessment Of Events In Syria From His Interview With Tucker – Andrew Korybko 12/7/24

If Putin hopes to reach a deal with Erdogan on Syria, then it’ll require keeping up the pretense (however unbelievable it is to objective observers) that Turkiye no longer backs terrorists, thus accounting for Lavrov’s diplomatic assessment of events there.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan just had a phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Nov. 24 in which the former reportedly talked up plans to expand cooperation as the two countries have done in recent years. Part of that includes years of Moscow holding the hands of Erdogan and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in an effort to mend ties due to Türkiye’s key role in the dirty war effort to topple the Assad government.

Biden’s Parting Shot at America – Ron Paul 12/3/24

Source: Antiwar.com

The interim between a US presidential election and the swearing in of a new Administration has for most of our history been a non-eventful period where the outgoing Administration winds down operations and the incoming Administration ramps up new personnel before the inauguration.

The 20th Amendment to our Constitution was enacted in 1933 to reduce the “lame duck” period between election and inauguration to January 20th instead of March 4th. Increasing ease in travel and communications made such a long interim unnecessary. However long the transition period, it has been understood that with the new election came a new mandate from the American people and the “lame duck” outgoing administration was meant to quietly quack out its last few days in office without incident.

The Five Reasons Why Syria Was Caught By Surprise – Andrew Korybko 11/30/24

Source: korybko.substack.com

The disaster in Aleppo was avoidable and is just as bad as it looks.

The Turkish-backed terrorists’/“rebels’” advance on Aleppo, which was analyzed here, came as a shock to most observers. There was almost half a decade of peace between the March 2020 ceasefire and now, yet practically nothing was done to prepare for this possibility. This was in spite of the front line remaining roughly two dozen kilometers away from Aleppo, which should have reminded Assad of how vulnerable his country’s second city is. Here are the five reasons why Syria was caught by surprise:

The Terrorist Offensive In Aleppo Is Meant To Deliver A Coup De Grace To Syria – Andrew Korybko 11/28/24

Everything will depend on whether the terrorists are stopped outside of Aleppo; the outcome of any possible battle for that city; and how desperate Assad becomes if he loses control over it and the terrorists advance on Damascus.

Update(1425ET): After capturing the central and northwestern parts of Aleppo, Syria’s largest northern city, armed jihadist insurgents led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) are reportedly seeking to take the west-central city of Hama next.

Regional media has cited HTS sources to say they’ve “begun marching towards Hama, successfully capturing six towns and villages in the countryside, including Morek, which lies along an important highway connecting central Syria to the north.” The Syrian government has denied that many of these towns or villages were captured, amid conflicting social media reports.

Violating His Own Policy, Biden OKs Antipersonnel Mines For Ukraine – ZeroHedge 11/20/24

Determined to leave an even bloodier legacy, President Biden has violated his own policy and approved the shipment of antipersonnel mines to Ukraine, two US officials have told the Washington Post. The move — which threatens to cause civilian injuries and deaths even after the war ends — comes in the face of months of Russian battlefield success in which its army has posted the fastest pace of territorial gains since 2022.

Ukraine’s ATACMS Strike On Russia Comes After Putin Lowers Threshold For Nukes – ZeroHedge 11/19/24

About a day after President Biden authorized Ukraine to use the long-range US-made MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile System to strike deeper into Russian territory, a new report suggests that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have hit a military installation in the western Bryansk region. This comes after Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Russia’s nuclear weapons doctrine was changed and signed by President Vladimir Putin, indicating “the use of Western non-nuclear rockets by the Armed Forces of Ukraine against Russia can prompt a nuclear response.”

‘Escalation Dominance’ and the Prospect of More Than 1,000 Holocausts – Norman Solomon 10/2/24

Everything is at stake. Everything is at stake with nuclear weapons.

While working as a nuclear war planner for the Kennedy administration, Daniel Ellsberg was shown a document calculating that a U.S. nuclear attack on communist countries would result in 600 million dead. As he put it later: “A hundred Holocausts.”

That was in 1961.

Belarus’ Warning About Using Nukes Probably Isn’t A Bluff (But There Might Be A Catch) – Andrew Korybko 9/28/24

Source: korybko.substack.com

Lukashenko spoke only about a conventional invasion of his country by NATO, not an unconventional attack of the sort that he warned about earlier in the year with regard to Lithuanian- and Polish-based anti-government militants.

Lukashenko said that “an attack against Belarus will trigger World War III. Recently, Vladimir Putin has confirmed it having amended the nuclear doctrine. An attack on Russia and Belarus will trigger a nuclear response. He confirmed what I said. It was the main point of my statement. As soon as they attack us (NATO is still NATO. Americans and Poles are already lined up along the border, especially the Polish border. We know that the Polish leadership is already rubbing their hands), we use nuclear weapons.”

The oblast declared a “partial evacuation” due to the large blast and surrounding fires. Social media video showed a huge fireball erupt against the night sky.

Russia & The West Are Engaged In Political Choreography Over Ukraine’s Use Of Long-Range Weapons – Andrew Korybko 9/15/24

Source: korybko.substack.com

Putin warned last week that letting Ukraine use Western long-range weapons to strike deep inside of Russia “will mean that NATO countries, the United States, and European countries are parties to the war in Ukraine. This will mean their direct involvement in the conflict, and it will clearly change the very essence, the very nature of the conflict dramatically. This will mean that NATO countries – the United States and European countries – are at war with Russia.”

Israel’s Largest Unprovoked Attack On Syria In Years Kills At Least 18 – Robert Inlakesh 9/12/24

Just before midnight on Sunday, Israel began launching waves of unprovoked airstrikes against Syrian targets in the center of the country. The attack was the largest committed by Israel against Syria since 2018, killing at least 18 and injuring around 40 people. Despite the hundreds of attacks perpetrated against Syrian civilian and military infrastructure, Damascus has chosen not to respond in years and instead takes its appeals to the United Nations.

Cheney Backs Harris: The War Hawk’s Blessing Reveals Continuity in Foreign Policy – J.D. Hester 9/11/24

Source: Antiwar.com

If there is one eternal rule in Washington, it is that “politics makes for strange bedfellows.” If you were to presume twenty years ago, that former Vice President Dick Cheney would one day endorse a progressive Democrat from California for president, you would be sent to an insane asylum. The idea that a diehard neoconservative and perhaps the biggest war criminal in recent American history would one day endorse someone like Kamala Harris would have been laughable. But due to the prevalence of “Trump derangement syndrome” amongst many neoconservatives, this has become the political reality.
