Western Yemen Comes Under Heavy Attack by US-British Warplanes – The Cradle 7/12/24

US and UK warplanes launched several airstrikes on Hodeidah International Airport in western Yemen on 12 July.

“US–British aircraft targeted Hodeidah International Airport with three raids,” a security source told Yemen’s SABA news agency.

The renewed attacks came after several US–UK attacks on Yemen on Thursday. “American and British fighter jets launched five raids on various Ansarallah sites in the Ras Issa area, which includes an oil berth affiliated with the port of Al-Salif, north of Hodeidah,” a local source in the western Hodeidah province told Sputnik on 11 July….

Houthis Report 16 Dead In Biggest Joint US-UK Airstrikes Since Gaza War Began – ZeroHedge 5/31/24

Early on Friday Yemen’s Houthis announced what appears to be the biggest mass casualty attack by the Western coalition since Red Sea hostilities began in the wake of Oct.7.

The joint British-U.S. airstrikes happened Thursday, and killed at least 16 people and wounded 35 others, according to Houthis statement. “We confirm this brutal aggression against Yemen as punishment for its position in support of Gaza, in support of Israel to continue its crimes of genocide against the wounded, besieged and steadfast Gaza Strip,” Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdulsalam said.

UK Insurers Refuse to Pay Nord Stream Because Blasts were ‘Government’ Backed – Wyatt Reed 4/17/24

The legal team representing high-powered insurers Lloyd’s and Arch says that since the Nord Stream explosions were “more likely than not to have been inflicted by… a government,” they have no responsibility to pay for damages to the pipelines. To succeed with that defense, the companies will presumably be compelled to prove, in court, who carried out those attacks.

In my torts class, I often compare the different approaches and doctrines in the United States and the United Kingdom. One of the most pronounced is the position and authority of physicians on issues like consent and malpractice. This week produced a particularly striking example. British doctors are seeking to take a 19-year-old critically ill female patient off the intensive care despite her objections and those of her parents. Unlike most such cases, the woman known only as “ST” is conscious and communicative. Yet, the doctors argue that she is not being realistic about her chances of survival from a rare disorder.  Now a British court has agreed and ordered that she can be placed on end-of-life care against her will.

On May 6, 2023 Charles will be coronated as the new King of Britain and the broader British Commonwealth under the title King Charles III. At the ceremony, the Archbishop of Canterbury will expand Charles’ role from ‘defender of the faith’ — a title established by Henry VIII nearly five centuries ago, to the new moniker of ‘defender of the faiths’. On top of this, the archbishop will take the unprecedented step of leading a new oath of allegiance which millions of people around the world shall be expected to repeat on command. The oath shall read in part: “I swear that I will pay true allegiance to Your Majesty, and to your heirs and successors according to law. So help me God.”

How such an archaic institution of medievalism has managed to keep its tentacles wrapped around the collective psyche 260 years after the American revolution successfully brought a new type of government into being premised around the idea that “all men are created equal endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights” is as ridiculous as it dangerous.
