The free press finds itself under escalating attack in Turkey, where government authorities have, in a disturbing development, detained three journalists.
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has urgently implored the government to reverse this intimidating course of action, to no avail thus far.

A Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) official was killed on 27 October in a suspected drone strike from Turkiye, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
The monitor said that the SDF official was targeted while leaving his house; a woman and child were also injured in the attack.
Since early October, Turkiye has boosted their targeting of Kurdish and Kurdish allied forces in what is being called a retaliation for a dual suicide bombing attack on a government building in Ankara….
President Tayyip Erdogan called Israel a war criminal during a massive pro-Palestinian rally on 28 October, causing Israel to withdraw its diplomats from Turkiye, as Israel’s horrific bombing campaign on Gaza continues.
“Israel has been openly committing war crimes for 22 days, but the Western leaders cannot even call on Israel for a ceasefire, let alone react to it,” Erdogan told the crowd in Istanbul, who waved Palestinian flags.

The Turkish Defense Ministry says the airstrikes were launched against 16 PKK targets in Metina (al-Dahi).

At least 100 Syrians were killed in a drone attack on a ceremony at a military college this Thursday, resulting in a declared three days of national mourning. This attack represents one of the largest attacks on the country’s military installations – in terms of casualties – in history. On the same day, perhaps coincidentally, the Pentagon affirmed that their own fighter jet had for the first time downed a drone belonging to NATO ally Turkey.
