Usually, I try to stay away from political issues because they’re, more or less, a puppet show and this site is mainly about the puppeteers behind it. When the Swedish Karolinska Institutet awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in early October this year, Dr. Robert Malone took his time before making any comments. He wanted to understand exactly what the University of Pennsylvania researchers, Hungarian-American biochemist Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman, a professor of medicine, had been awarded the prize for. According to an explanation from the Karolinska Institutet, it was given for discoveries concerning nucleoside base modifications that enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against Covid-19. Karikó and Weissman published the work on which the prize was based in 2005.

Columbia University says its suspending two campus Palestine groups.

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Fellowships were once one of the most prestigious awards a scholar could get. The so-called “genius grants” are still a nice payout; winners get $800,000 over five years to spend however they want.
Prestige is declining along with the quality of the recipients. In 2015, Ta-Nehisi Coates got a grant. He went on to complain about Donald Trump and write comic books few people bought. However, he is a genius compared to 2021 award winner Ibram X. Kendi, whose reputation is in tatters after his “Center for Antiracist Research” blew through $43 million while producing almost no research.
We don’t know what 2023’s winners will do in the years to come, but what they have been up to so far is, to put it mildly, eye-opening.

Thirty organizations on Tuesday joined the France-based Phonegate Alert to demand that French and European authorities permanently withdraw Apple’s iPhone 12 from all European markets.
The demand came after France lifted a temporary sales ban on the phone. The ban was first imposed when Apple’s iPhone 12 failed radiation safety test.

In what seems like an inevitable development, scientists Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman have been awarded the 2023 Nobel Prize in Medicine for their role in developing the mRNA technology underlying the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines which were rolled out in late 2020.
But in a paper published as recently as 2018 and which is extensively quoted in an article at MedPageToday here, none other than Drew Weissman warned that prior clinical trials of mRNA vaccines had produced results which were “more modest in humans than was expected based on animal models…and the side effects were not trivial,” including “moderate and in rare cases severe injection site or systemic reactions.”

The U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE), the DHS agency that conducts criminal investigations and enforces U.S. immigration laws, is one of a handful of government agencies that use a software tracking tool called SocialNet.
SocialNet pulls citizens’ online data from a host of websites, including BabyCenter, a reference and pregnancy tracking site where new and expecting parents can post information about their health and pregnancy experiences.
