Israel kills 40 Palestinians in a strike on an UNRWA school sheltering displaced families

At least 40 Palestinians were killed early on Thursday in an Israeli airstrike of an UNRWA school sheltering displaced families in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.

The Gaza-based government media office said in a statement that 14 of the victims were children and nine were women. Around 74 more were wounded, including 23 children and 18 women, the office added.

The UNRWA Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini said through his account on X that Israel bombed an UNRWA school that housed thousands of displaced Palestinians during the night, without any warning to the displaced or to the UNRWA.

The Israeli army admitted the bombing in a statement, claiming that it had conducted a “precise strike” on dozens of Palestinian militants who were gathered in a building separate from the location of the civilians. The Gaza government media office denied the Israeli army’s claims….
