It’s Sunday, not normally a good day for gaining people’s attention on news or analytical current events’ columns. The ongoing emergency—the massacre of children and other civilians in Gaza however—trumps all other considerations, at least for this writer, so here goes.
Part One: Netanyahu Channels Amalek
In their ignorance (or malice), Old Testament haters will have a field day with Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu having channeled “Amalek” as he ordered the Israeli army to invade Gaza on October 28.
This fact is so incendiary that a quick search of the New York Times today reveals that the “newspaper of record” hasn’t dared to mention it thus far.

The list of the dead included in the report of the Ministry of Health in Gaza includes the names of 6,747 people, including 2,665 children. The report does not include the names of another 281 Palestinians who have been killed, but not yet identified.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stated on 18 October that Israel is not seeking to defeat Hamas militarily, but to push Gaza’s civilians to seek refuge in Egypt.

The Pentagon has deployed a US Marine rapid response unit consisting of 2,000 marines and sailors to Israeli waters, according to two US defense officials who spoke with CNN.
“[The unit] will join a growing number of US warships and forces converging on Israel as the US seeks to send a message of deterrence to Iran and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah,” the US outlet reported on 17 October.
The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit is onboard the USS Bataan, an amphibious assault ship that can carry over 20 aircraft. It was deployed to the Red Sea in August to counter the Iranian navy in Persian Gulf waters alongside the USS Carter Hall landing ship.
“The USS Carter Hall, a dock landing ship that is operating with the USS Bataan, is also sailing toward Israel,” CNN reports….

A Russian-drafted resolution for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza failed to pass at the UN Security Council (UNSC) on 16 October.
China, Russia, Gabon, Mozambique, and the UAE voted in favor of the resolution, while the US, UK, France, and Japan voted against it. Albania, Brazil, Ecuador, Ghana, Malta, and Switzerland all abstained from voting.
